Dr. Balachandra Patil from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, India is an energy, environment, and sustainability expert, and ranked among top 10 management researchers (First in Strategic Management area) in India. He is also ranked among top 2% of the Energy Scientists in the World. He received his PhD in Energy and Environment from the Indian Institute of Science in 2000. Prior to this he obtained his MSc (Engg.) degree in 1997 from the Indian Institute of Science and BE degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1986 from Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal. He served as a visiting expert at Harvard University-USA, UNDP-Bangkok, AIT-Bangkok. and IGIDR-Mumbai. He has investigated about 48 research & consultancy assignments for both international and national organisations. Has co-authored six books and published about 170 papers in international and national journals, conferences, and edited books with an H-Index of 33. He has supervised/mentored 40 PhD scholars (26 awarded and 14 ongoing). He has been conferred with the distinguished alumni award of Manipal University in 2011.

Abhishek Das

Abhishek Das is a senior research scholar in the Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Science (IISc). He is pursuing his doctoral research on social and economic impacts of social and economic impact of decarbonisation of Indian electricity system on coal power value-chain wherein he is using a mathematical model-based approach to track the decarbonisation impacts. As part of MCET, he is working in the area of energy system modelling, focusing on transition planning for the electricity system of Karnataka, India. Prior to joining the PhD program, he has been worked in coal mining and electricity sector for over 5 years. In his short research career, he has co-authored two peer-reviewed journal papers, one book chapter and one monograph. He has delivered presentations and has been a key resource person at workshops on his research and energy modelling skills at a special panel at IIT Roorkee (Sep 2024), INSEE Biennial Conference at BML Munjal University (Feb 2024) and IISc Bengaluru (Feb 2023).

M Manjunath

M Manjunath is a research scholar in the Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) currently working on integrating demand side flexibility to energy modelling. As part of MCET, he is working on electricity system transition in the state of Karnataka, India with focus on integrating demand side flexibility in agriculture, residential and transport sectors using open source energy modelling. He has presented in IDEEA workshop held in IIT Roorkee in Sep 2024 and participated in IDEEA launch in Delhi and hosted panels at IISc Bangalore.

Praveen P

Mr. Praveen P is a PhD research scholar in the Department of Management Studies at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. As part of MCET, he is working in the area of energy system modelling, focusing on transition planning for the electricity system of Karnataka, India. He is also researching the integration of Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) into the electrical grid. Recently, he presented modelling results at the INSEE Biennial Conference (Jan 2024). Additionally, he conducted energy system modelling workshops at IIT Dharwad (Mar 2024) and IIT Roorkee (Sep 2024). He also presented on VPP integration studies at the IISc Centre for Sustainability Summit (Jul 2024) and the Open Source Energy System Workshop at IIT Roorkee (Sep 2024).
