The MCET network is an international initiative uniting energy modelers and policymakers working in 10 countries—Bangladesh, Chile, China, Colombia, India, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Thailand, United States and Vietnam—to advance electricity and energy planning. Our mission is to leverage open-source tools like Switch, EnergyRT, and PyPSA to help countries design sustainable and tailored decarbonization pathways.
We work closely with local policymakers to refine and expand national-scale energy models, offering comprehensive support through data kits, training, and technical assistance provided by expert model developers.
Our efforts extend beyond individual countries. By fostering international collaboration, we enhance model quality, compare results, and share best practices to ensure effective decision-making. Regular coordination meetings, a shared GitHub platform, and active Discord channels serve as key spaces for teams to exchange insights and technical support. Workshops further strengthen engagement with stakeholders and provide essential training.
