Matías Negrete-Pincetic

Matías Negrete, holds a degree in Electrical Engineering (B.Sc. P.Eng.) and a Master of Science in Physics from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). He also holds an M.Sc. in Physics and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was a Postdoctoral Associate at the EECS Department at the University of California, Berkeley. Matías is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering at PUC and Co-director of the Energy and Complex Systems Laboratory. He is also an Associate Researcher at the Institute for Complex Engineering Systems (ISCI), and a member of the academic committee of the UC Energy Research Center. His research and development interests include operation and planning of energy systems, electricity market design for systems with large penetration of renewable energy, decentralized control of smart grids, and energy policy. As Director at Vinken, he has led specialized consulting studies with public and private actors in the sector, including the Ministry of Energy, the National Energy Commission, and the National Electricity Coordinator.

Master of Science in Engineering and Industrial Civil Engineer, Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Interested in the operation, planning, and regulation of power systems and electricity markets. As a consultant at Vinken, he has participated in specialized consulting studies with public and private actors in the sector, including the Ministry of Energy, the National Energy Commission, and the National Electricity Coordinator, on issues of evaluating the transition of the electricity market to a system based on offers, the requirements of system flexibility, ancillary services, capacity markets, and pricing to end consumers.

Master of Science in Engineering and Electrical Civil Engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Interested in the operation, planning and regulation of power systems and electricity markets. As a consultant at Vinken, he has participated in specialized consulting studies with public and private sector actors, including the Ministry of Energy, the National Energy Commission, and the National Electricity Coordinator, addressing issues such as the evaluation of the electricity market transition, system flexibility requirements and end-consumer pricing. Additionally, he has experience in power system planning exercises and its efficient transition in line with new challenges that it faces, including the incorporation of new relevant sectors in these exercises, such as desalination.
